LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Led by Preseason All-MAAC Second Team selection
Chloe Fisher (Warrington, England/Cronton Sixth Form College), the Rider University women's soccer team was picked to finish seventh in the MAAC by the league's coaches, the league office today announced. Quinnipiac is the preseason favorite, receiving 10 of 11 first-place votes and 116 points. The Broncs received the remaining first-place vote.
Niagara (99), Fairfield (96) and Siena (81) followed the Bobcats in the preseason poll, ahead of Iona and Marist, which tied for fifth with 70 points apiece. Rider (61, 1 first-place vote) was next, ahead of Manhattan (45), Mount St. Mary's (33), Canisius (28) and Saint Peter's (27).
Fisher led the Broncs in goals (six) and points (16), while finishing second on the team with four assists in 2021. Three of her goals were game winners, including golden goals in consecutive games to defeat Manhattan on Oct. 9 and Marist on Oct. 13. Her goal in the 80th minute against NJIT on Sept. 8 was also a game winner, while she also tallied goals against Wagner (Aug. 20), St. Francis Brooklyn (Aug. 25) and Siena (Sept. 18). In the win over St. Francis Brooklyn, she also distributed three assists, while also assisting on a goal against Villanova (Aug. 29).
The Broncs open the 2022 season on Thursday, Aug. 18, at Wagner. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on Staten Island.
