Men's Soccer Plays Siena to 2-2 Tie

Cidolit scores twice

LOUDONVILLE, NJLenny Cidolit (Montpellier, France/Montpellier Univ.) scored twice as the Rider University men's soccer team played Siena to a 2-2 draw on the road Wednesday afternoon. With the tie, the Broncs move to 2-8-5 (1-3-4 MAAC), while the Saints are now 7-5-5 (3-2-4 MAAC).

Zach Gardner started the scoring for Siena in the 16th minute, scoring off assists from Antonio Linge and Bilal Hersi. The Broncs got the goal back in the 22nd minute, as Adel Al Masude (Brussels, Belgium/GO Lyceum Gent) crossed to the right post to find the head of Cidolit for the equalizer. In the 40th minute, Siena was awarded a penalty kick, but Rider goalkeeper Guillaume Veinante (Bayonne, France/Faculte des métier de Rennes) made the initial save on Jacob Sandun Arachchige-Jensen, stopped his own rebound, and a third Siena shot cleared the crossbar to keep the score tied at 1-1 at the half.

Cidolit gave Rider its first lead of the game in the 77th minute, with Momo Diop (Thies, Senegal/Prive Serigne Touba) and Babacar Diene (Thies, Senegal/CEM Ballabey) playing give and go along the right sideline to get Diene to the goal line, before crossing to Cidolit for the finish in front. But Siena wasn't done. The Saints scored the equalizer in the 87th minute, as Arachchige-Jensen scored off the rebound of Gardner's shot to knot the game.

Quotes & Notes
"We were tired and sluggish coming out to start the match. We could have been down two goals easily. Lenny scores against the run of play and GV stops a penalty and it's 1-1 at the half. In the second half, we took control and Lenny scored a beautiful goal, but we conceded the equalizer late. This team has guts. Everyone has counted us out except us." - Rider Head Coach Charlie Inverso

- Rider maintains its 13-12-6 lead in the all-time series. The two teams split a pair of meetings last season with each team winning on the other's home field. Siena defeated the Broncs on Rider's Senior Day, before the Broncs earned a win at Siena in the MAAC Quarterfinals.
- Veinante made his 15th-straight start in net and made six saves.
- Veinante, Regis Dulck (Strasbourg, France/Univ. of Strasbourg), Cidolit, Sarrabayrouse, Jeremy Peterson (Paris, France/University Paris Sorbonne) each played all 90 minutes.
- Rider played without reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Zaki Alibou (Meknes, Morocco/Meknes) for the 12th time in the last 14 games due to injuries.
