HEMPSTEAD, NY –
Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) intercepted a Hofstra outlet pass and found
Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/ Monsignor Bonner [Archbishop Prendergast]) on a two-on-one in overtime for the game-winning goal as the Rider University field hockey team defeated the Pride, 3-2, Friday afternoon. The win moves the Broncs to 6-2 on the season, while the Pride drop to 5-5.
Hofstra opened the scoring in the first quarter. After the Broncs blocked a shot on a penalty corner, the ball landed on the stick of Cami Larson, who ripped a backhand shot into the top corner. That goal would remain as the halftime score.
In the waning seconds of the third quarter, Hofstra earned a corner. The Pride scored off a deflection on a shot from the top to go up by a pair.
The Broncs came roaring back in the fourth. Brosious deflected a lead pass by a defender before dribbling around the goalie to put Rider on the board. With just under five minutes remaining, Divorra restarted play at the top of the circle with a drop pass to
Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netharlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum) who ripped a shot just inside the far post to tie the game and send it to the overtime period.
