Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Wins NEC Opener Over Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) scored her fourth game-winning goal of the season in the third quarter as the Rider University field hockey team opened NEC play with a 2-1 victory at Merrimack on Friday afternoon. The Broncs improved to 7-2 overall, while the Warriors fell to 0-9.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the second quarter. After Merrimack goalie Brooke Bolduc made a save on a Bronc penalty stroke, the Warriors earned and converted on a stroke of their own.

The Broncs fired back in the third. Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum) found Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast), who tied the game just over three minutes into the second half. Minutes later, Sierra Giuliano (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) made a long pass in to the circle, where Divorra took the backhand shot that would prove to be the game winner.
