Men's Basketball Announces Incoming Class for 2021-22 Season

Baggett adds four Division I transfers for upcoming season

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Men's Basketball Head Coach Kevin Baggett has announced his team's incoming class for the 2021-22 season, comprised of four Division I transfers. Two-time All-MAAC forward Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School [Ole Miss]) returns to Lawrenceville following a year at Ole Miss, while Sedrick Altman (Rialto, CA/Colony [Pepperdine]), Mervin James (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands/Pebblebrook [North Alabama]) and Jett Roesling (Pittsburgh, PA/First Love Academy [Duquesne]) will also join the Broncs this season.

Dimencio Vaughn
6'5" Forward
Graduate
New York, NY/Callaway/The Master's School [Ole Miss]

- Played in 16 games off the bench last season at Ole Miss
- Two-time All-MAAC First Team and All-Met Second Team pick at Rider (2017-18, 2019-20)
- Ranks 26th all-time at Rider with 1,239 points
- Ranks 6th all-time at Rider with 165 steals, 23 off the program record of 188 (Stevie Jordan, Ryan Thompson)

Baggett on Vaughn: "It's good to have Dimencio back. All-Conference First Team player when he was here with us. Obviously went and played at Ole Miss this past year and things didn't work out nearly as well as he had hoped. We're certainly glad to have him back. A guy who's been developed by my coaches and I and been in our program – to have him back for another year, his final year, hopefully he brings back to us a better player, having gotten experience playing at the highest level. And just understanding the nuances of college basketball and the business side of it, too – having him back, we're certainly glad he decided to come back home and play for us with his final year.

Sedrick Altman
6'2" Guard
Junior
Rialto, CA/Colony [Pepperdine]

- Played in 57 games and started 39 over two years at Pepperdine
- Averaged 8.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 28.1 minutes as a sophomore, shooting a team-best 50.6% from the field
- Averaged 10.0 points in WCC games
- Scored in double-figures eight times, six of which came in league play
- Had a career-high 22 points at Saint Mary's (2/22/21)
- Earned WCC All-Freshman team honors in 2019-20
- The CIF Southern Section Division 2A Player of the Year and Palomares League MVP as a senior at Rialto High School
- Averaged 28.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.5 steals as a high school senior
- Brother, Cory McJimson, played for then-Retrievers Assistant Coach Kevin Baggett at UMBC

Baggett on Altman: "Sedrick Altman is a transfer from Pepperdine who has three years of eligibility remaining. Slasher. He's a young man who I'd consider an elite defender. Offensively, he can do some things. He was a starter the past two years at Pepperdine. Excited to have what he brings to our roster – experience, having played in a great conference, and his ability to do a number of things, offensively and defensively."

Mervin James
6'7" Forward
Junior
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands/Pebblebrook [North Alabama]

- Two-year starter at North Alabama, earning Atlantic Sun All-Conference Second Team honors in 2020-21
- Averaged 14.0 points (9th-ASUN) and 7.2 rebounds (4th-ASUN) per game as a sophomore, while shooting 46.1 percent from the floor and 72.7 percent (9th-ASUN) from the free-throw line
- Posted six double-doubles on the year
- Scored in double figures in 18-of-23 games played in 2020-21
- Named to the 2019-20 ASUN Conference All-Freshman Team
- High school teammate of Dwight Murray, Jr. at Pebblebrook

Baggett on James: "Mervin James is a transfer from North Alabama. He was a high school teammate of Dwight Murray. Mervin is a wing/four man. Strong, powerful, scores inside and outside. Another really good, experienced defender and an All-Conference player in the Atlantic Sun. Definitely going to bring a lot of experience to us. Started his last two years at North Alabama. Brings another dimension to us that we didn't have – some experience, some leadership and a chemistry that he already has, having played with Dwight Murray, high school, middle school, AAU-wise. So, certainly excited to have Mervin in our program."

Jett Roesling
6'4" Guard
Sophomore
Pittsburgh, PA/First Love Academy [Duquesne]

- Played one game at Duquesne as a true freshman in 2020-21
- Averaged 26.2 points (48.8 percent from 3-point), 6.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game vs. a national schedule as a senior for 22-7 First Love Academy
- First Love finished the 2019-20 season with wins over three top 25 nationally ranked teams.
- Made 10 or more 3-pointers in a game 12 times during his high school career
- Finished his high school career with 467 three-pointers, including seven game-winners
- Shot 47.4 percent from the 3-point arc and 90.3 percent from the free throw line for his scholastic career

Baggett on Roesling: "Jett's a transfer from Duquesne. Big-time shooter, coming out of high school averaging 26 points out of prep school. He'll add another dimension that we needed. We needed some more shooting in our program. A guy who can really shoot it at an elite level. He'll really add a dimension as far as stretching the floor for us. A guy who can really make shots. A guy who has a solid basketball IQ. You're talking about adding more experience, having played at the Division I level, where Jett was at Duquesne. Didn't play nearly as much – I know they were shut down several times with the COVID virus. But definitely was heavily recruited coming out of high school, going into college and having played in the Atlantic 10 with Duquesne.
