Volleyball Sweeps Two Matches at Manhattan Sunday

Romano finishes with 30 kills, Ward adds 28

RIVERDALE, NY – Morgan Romano (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) had 30 kills as the Rider University volleyball team earned a sweep of two road matches at Manhattan on Sunday. The Broncs cruised to a 3-0 victory in the first match, before taking the second, 3-1. With the win, the Broncs even their record at 4-4, while the Jaspers are now 2-6.

The Broncs took the first match by margins of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-17. Romano had a double-double of 13 kills and 10 digs, while Ali Ward (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) added 11 kills. Anilee Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) dished out 38 assists, while Danielle Blanco (El Paso, TX/Franklin) contributed 13 digs and seven assists.

Rider took a one-set lead in the second match, 25-18, before the Jaspers responded with their lone set win of the doubleheader, 25-23, in the second. The Broncs regrouped with a 25-23 win in the third and clinched the match with 25-17 win in the fourth. Romano and Ward had 17 kills apiece in the win, with Sher narrowly missing a double-double with 49 assists and nine digs. Blanco had 18 digs.

NOTES
- Rider has now won eight of the last nine against Manhattan. The sweep comes on the heels of a 3-2 Manhattan win last Nov. 13, snapping a six-match Rider winning streak.
- MAAC programs are playing five doubleheaders each in the regular season before heading to Albany, NY, for MAAC Championships, April 1-3.

BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Romano finished with 30 kills, 17 digs and eight service aces.
- Ward had 28 kills.
- Caprice Clarke (Toronto, Ontario/Blyth Academy (Yorkville)) added 13 kills, hitting .440, while also contributing four blocks.
- Morgan Koch (Bloomington, IL/Central Catholic) also had double-digit kills with 12, while adding four blocks.
- Sher had 87 assists (12.43 aps.) and 16 digs.
- Blanco had a team-high 31 digs to go along with 10 assists.

Rider ret
urns to action Friday, when it wraps up the regular season with two home matches against Saint Peter's. The matches are scheduled for 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. (tentative – 2 ½ hours between the end of the first match and the beginning of the second, by MAAC rule).
