Volleyball Cruises Past Manhattan Into MAAC Semifinals

Broncs advance to MAAC Semifinals for Third Time

ALBANY, NY – Anilee Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) had 30 assists and Morgan Romano (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) and Ali Ward (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) had nine kills apiece as the fourth-seeded Rider University volleyball team defeated fifth-seeded Manhattan, 3-0, in the MAAC Championship Quarterfinals Thursday evening at the Albany Convention Center. With the win, Rider (5-4) moves on to face eighth-seeded Siena (1-6) in the semifinals. The Saints advanced following top-seeded Fairfield's withdrawal from the tournament due to a positive COVID-19 test within the program.

Rider took the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-21, respectively, before cruising to a 25-14 win in the third to clinch the match.

QUOTES & NOTES
"Throughout the match, as we kind of got into it, our serve-pass game just got a little bit better. We were a little bit sloppy on the serve line at the beginning and we weren't receiving the ball really well to start. So, we kind of put our hitters in some tough spots to start. They were getting some really good digs. And credit to (Manhattan). They played really great defense behind their block tonight. It was really frustrating our hitters. But we found our rhythm finally. Once we started to get better in those two phases, it definitely helped." – Rider Head Coach Jeff Rotondo

- Rider has now won nine of the last 10 against Manhattan, including all three this season.
- The Broncs advanced to the MAAC Semifinals for the third time in program history (2004, 2018).
- A win Friday would give Rider its first-ever appearance in the MAAC Championship match.
