What You Need To Know
- The Rider University wrestling team will host the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championships at CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton this Friday and Saturday.
- Live video be available from all sessions. Early round action on Friday will be broadcast on GoBroncs.com, with coverage of all four mats. The action moves to ESPN+ for the Semifinals at 4:30 p.m. with the feature matches being shown.
- Seven Broncs drew pre-seeds for the tournament, all in the top five, led by
Jesse Dellavecchia (#1) at 157 lbs. and
Ethan Laird (#2) at 285 lbs.

George Walton drew the No. 3 seed at 184 lbs., while
Jake Silverstein and
Angel Garcia are both ranked fourth at 165 lbs. and 174 lbs., respectively.

Jonathan Tropea (125 lbs.) and
McKenzie Bell (141 lbs.) drew the fifth seed at their weight classes. Â
- The Broncs were 4-1 in an abbreviated dual season, falling at Binghamton on Jan. 9, before earning four-straight wins at Clarion, against George Mason, at then-No. 25 Lehigh and at home against Drexel.
- The Broncs maintained their presence in the national rankings this week, ranking as high as No. 21 in the tournament rankings, No. 25 in the dual team rankings and No. 5 in the mid-major rankings.

Jesse Dellavecchia is ranked No. 3 at 157 lbs. by the NCAA Coaches Rankings, while taking the No. 4 ranking from FloWrestling, Intermat, TrackWrestling, Wrestlestat and The Open Mat.

Ethan Laird is ranked as highly as No. 7 at heavyweight by Wrestlestat, while coming in at No. 8 by Intermat and The Open Mat, No. 9 from the NCAA Coaches and TrackWrestling and No. 10 from FloWrestling.

George Walton is ranked as highly as No. 24 nationally at 184 lbs. by Track Wrestling, while also taking the No. 25 ranking from FloWrestling, No. 26 from The Open Mat and No. 27 from the NCAA Coaches. Â Â

Jonathan Tropea is ranked No. 32 at 125 lbs. by Track Wrestling and No. 33 by the NCAA Coaches.

Jake Silverstein is ranked No. 30 by The Open Mat at 165 lbs.

Angel Garcia is ranked No. 33 by the NCAA Coaches at 174 lbs.
- The MAC has been pre-allocated 35 NCAA Qualifiers, including a high of four at 133 lbs.

Ethan Laird was named MAC Co-Wrestler of the Week on Feb. 10 after earning an 8-5 decision over then-No. 5 Jordan Wood at heavyweight. The win vaulted Laird, who's won all six of his matches this year, to as high as No. 6 in the national rankings. It also clinched the Broncs' 17-15 team win over the Mountain Hawks.
- Missouri has won each of the eight MAC Wrestling Championships it's competed in since joining the league in 2013. The Tigers return a pair of past MAAC Champions in Brock Mauller (149 – 2019, 2020) and Jarrett Jacques (157 – 2019). Jacques was unseated by
Jesse Dellavecchia in 2020.
- Central Michigan returns three past MAC Champions in Drew Hildebrandt (125 - 2020), Dresden Simon (141 - 2020) and Matt Stencel (285 – 2018, 2019, 2020).
- Also returning as defending MAC Champions are Northern Illinois' Brit Wilson at 184 lbs. and Clarion's Greg Bulsak at 197 lbs.
- Rider won the 2020 MAC East Division Championship with a 7-1 record against league foes, including a 6-0 mark against its East Division foes.Â
- A Rider wrestler has achieved All-American status on 17 occasions, including 15 different wrestlers. Current assistant coach
Ryan Wolfe, along with
Chad Walsh, were the last Broncs to earn All-American in 2017.
- Rider earned a statement victory over then-No. 6 Minnesota on Nov. 15, 2019.
