What You Need To Know
- Rider plays its home opener Friday, when it welcomes Coppin State on ESPN3. 
- The Broncs opened the season with a 73-61 loss at Duquesne on Tuesday. Dwight Murray, Jr., led four Broncs in double-figures with 17 points, while Dimencio Vaughn (13), Corey McKeithan (10) and Mervin James (10) also reached double digits.
- Coppin State suffered a pair of losses on the road earlier this week, falling at Loyola (Chicago) and DePaul.
- The Eagles have been led by Jesse Zarzuela (16.5 ppg.) in their first two games, while Mike Hood has also averaged in double figures at 12.5 ppg. Nendah Tarke just misses double figures at 9.0 ppg. to go along with a team-high 4.5 rebounds per game.
- Rider is 3-0 all-time vs. Coppin State, with the last meeting coming in the 2019-20 season opener in Baltimore.
- Dwight Murray, Jr. and Dimencio Vaughn were named to the Preseason All-MAAC First and Second Teams, respectively.
- The Broncs were picked fifth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll a year after finishing 11th of 11 teams in 2020-21.
- Rider added DI transfers Sedrick Altman (Pepperdine) and Mervin James (North Alabama) this season. Altman was a starter and WCC All-Freshman Team pick, while James earned All-ASUN Second Team honors last season.
- Starting center Ajiri Ogemuno-Johnson and starting guard Allen Powell also return. Ogemuno-Johnson averaged 7.7 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting a team-best 60.6 percent from the floor. Powell lived up to his reputation as a sharpshooter, hitting a MAAC-best 44.0 percent from long range.
- The Broncs earned a MAAC Championship First Round win over sixth-seeded Canisius on the strength of 22 points from Murray and 19 from Powell. 
- 10th-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 147-134 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider than Baggett.
