Jaime de Jaraiz Garcia earned a singles win, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Lafayette, 6-1, Saturday. With the loss in their first dual match of the season, the Broncs fall to 0-1, while the Leopards are now 1-0.
"A lot of positives from today," said Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We really competed well. We maintain composure under pressure, which helped us construct points. Just need to work on the little things for the next two weeks before our next match. I'm happy with the direction of our team and we are excited to get back to work."
Vishal Ganeshan and
Nicholas Salazar earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Ross Coleman and Davis Esslinger. But the Leopards would take the doubles point with a pair of 6-4 wins at Nos. 1 and 3.
de Jaraiz Garcia defeated Esslinger, 8-6, at No. 5 singles. But the Leopards would win the remaining five singles flights to close out the 6-1 victory.
Pablo Salar Carrera and
Dylan Lachmanen were both highly competitive in three-set defeats.
The Broncs return to action Thursday, when they take part in ITA Northeast Regionals in Philadelphia.
