LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Zaki Alibou (Meknes, Morocco, Meknes) and
Lenny Cidolit (Montpellier, France/Montpellier Univ.) each scored goals, but the Rider University men's soccer team fell at Marist, 4-2, Wednesday night. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 5-5-1 (2-2-0 MAAC), while the Red Foxes also evened their record at 6-6-1 (3-2-0 MAAC).
Marist struck first in the third minute, with Richard Morel finding the back of the net. Alibou evened the score at the 25-minute mark, collecting a long Cidolit pass from the Broncs' defensive third ahead of the pack, before flicking it past a charging Marist goalkeeper Sam Ilin, who came out of the 18-yard box to contest.
In the 32
nd minute, Marist looked to have a goal nullified by an offsides call. However, the call was rescinded and Andre Cutler-DeJesus was credited with the goal. The Broncs were dealt another tough call just over a minute later, with
Tyrrell Moore (Brooklyn, NY/Elisabeth Irwin [Wake Forest]) being sent off with a straight red card on a tackle near the midfield stripe.
With the score still 2-1 Marist at the break, the Red Foxes extended the lead to two goals on a Stefan Copetti strike in the 51
st minute. Cidolit would counter in the 55
th minute to cut the deficit back to one off assists from
Regis Dulck (Ostwald, France/Lycee Jean Monnet Strasbourg) and
Jeremy Peterson (Noisy Le Grand, France/Sorbonne Paris Nord). But the Broncs could draw no closer and Marist tacked on another insurance goal in the 69
th minute from Jacob Schulman.
