LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University men's soccer senior forward
Zaki Alibou (Meknes, Morocco/Meknes) has been named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, the league office today announced. Alibou scored three goals on the week, including two at MAAC Preseason favorite Quinnipiac and another against Niagara to lead the Broncs' to a pair of wins.
Now tied for the league lead in goals with seven, Alibou scored in the 41
st and 72
nd minutes at Quinnipiac as the Broncs defeated the Bobcats, 4-2. He then equalized in the 54
th minute against Niagara and the Broncs went on to earn a 2-1 victory against the Purple Eagles. The two victories helped the Broncs bounce back from a heartbreaking league-schedule-opening double-overtime loss at MAAC-leading Monmouth on Sept. 29 and jump into a tie for third in the MAAC. Rider sits a point behind Siena for second and in a four-way tie for third in spite of the Broncs having already had the league idle date and the rest of the teams in the tie or above them in the standings having played an extra game.
The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Marist for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Broncs (2-1 MAAC) and Red Foxes (2-2 MAAC) are currently tied in the MAAC standings with six points apiece.
