Field Hockey Falls in NEC Championship Rematch

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – In a rematch of last season's NEC Championship game LIU came to Ben Cohen Field and got revenge against the Broncs, winning 2-1 Sunday afternoon. The win lifts the Sharks to 4-7 on the season and 2-1 in NEC play, while the Broncs drop to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

The Sharks opened the scoring in the third minute, scoring off a penalty corner to take the early lead. LIU then extended the lead to 2-0 in the second quarter after connecting a pair of passes on another corner attempt.

Late in the second, Julia Divorra (Terrasa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) answered for Rider, scoring her ninth of the season after receiving a pass from Kiki van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Montessori Lyceum Amsterdam) on a corner for the Broncs.

The Broncs got their best chance for the equalizer midway through the third quarter, getting back-to-back corner opportunities, but could not tie the game.

Quotes & Notes
"You certainly can't go down, especially in conference, to teams early in the game and expect to come back and win. We've been doing that all year in our non-conference schedule and we've been able to do that. But, you know what, there comes a time when you can't do that every single game. You have to start learning and building and learning from your mistakes." – Head Coach Lori Hussong

- The Broncs lead the all-time series 4-1 over the Sharks since LIU-Brooklyn and CW Post merged ahead of the 2019-20 academic year.
Carlee Fulton (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) made her second consecutive start in goal, and made a save for the Broncs.
- Kiera Guckavan (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area), Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum), Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner [Archbishop Prendergast]), Divorra, Maeve Riehman (Norristown, PA/Archbishop Carroll), and Sierra Giuliano (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) played all 60 minutes in the game

Broncs By The Numbers
- The Broncs out-shot LIU 10-4, including a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
- Rider earned 10 corners in the game to eight for LIU.
- Divorra's goal is the 37th of her career, moving her into sole possession of ninth place in program history.
