Quinnipiac Downs Women's Basketball

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team lost at home to Quinnipiac, 72-50, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Friday afternoon.
 
The Bobcats (7-4, 5-2 MAAC) won their fourth straight contest thanks to pulling away from the Broncs (2-14, 1-10 MAAC) in the second quarter.
 
The two teams battled early in the contest and Quinnipiac lead wire-to-wire.
 
Rider used a little surge in the first quarter to pull within four at 18-14 following back-to-back buckets from Daija Moses (Toronto, Ontario/Henry Street) and Victoria Toomey (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore). The guests responded with an 11-0 run that stretched from the end of the opening frame to midway through the second to build a double-digit advantage.
 
In the second quarter, the Bobcats outscored the Broncs, 20-7.
 
It was a balanced attack for Rider with three players scoring nine of more points. Freshman Makayla Firebaugh (Winchester, VA/James Wood) had a team-high 11 points, while classmate Raphaela Toussaint (Kingston, Ontario/Lincoln Prep) added 10 points of own. In the post, Toomey had nine points, four rebounds and three blocked shots.

- Quinnipiac leads the all-time series with Rider, 16-2.
- The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Broncs versus the Bobcats.  
- Rider outscored Quinnipiac, 17-13, in the third quarter. The Broncs shot over 43 percent from the field during the stanza.
- The Broncs tied a season-high with eight blocked shots in the game. It was their sixth game with five or more blocks in 2020-21.
 
BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Firebaugh and Toussaint combined to shoot 10-of-21 from the field. The rest of the Broncs were 9-of-34.
- Firebaugh scored in double figures for the ninth time this season. She also added six rebounds and a career-high four assists.
- Toussaint poured in 10 or more points for the third time in the last four games. She was 5-of-9 shooting from the field. It was her sixth straight game knocking down 50 percent or more of her shots from the field. She added five rebounds and one steal.
- Toomey had three or more blocks for the third game in a row.
- Amanda Mobley added seven points, two assists and two rebounds for Rider.
