Women's Basketball Outlasts Quinnipiac in Overtime on Saturday

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – A season-high five players scored in double figures as the Rider University women's basketball team outlasted Quinnipiac, 77-74, in overtime on Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action inside Alumni Gymnasium.
 
The contest saw 11 lead changes as the Broncs (3-14, 2-10 MAAC) erased a four-point deficit with under 90 seconds remaining in regulation to best the Bobcats (7-5, 5-3 MAAC).
 
Down by four late in the fourth, Rider sophomore Victoria Toomey (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore) scored in the post to make it one-possession game at 63-61 with just over a minute left in regulation. After a defensive stop, Bronc freshman Raphaela Toussaint (Kingston, Ontario/Lincoln Prep) tied the contest at 63 with a pair of free throws with 23 seconds left in the game. Quinnipiac did not score on the final possession as the game headed to overtime.
 
In the extra frame, freshman Makayla Firebaugh (Winchester, VA/James Wood) gave the hosts a 71-69 lead thanks to knocking down a three-pointer from the wing with just over two minutes left. After the Bobcats tied the game on the ensuing possession, Rider reeled off five straight points capped by a Toussaint three from the top of the key with 14 seconds left in the game.
 
Rider hit one of two free throws after a QU basket to put the game away.
 
Toussaint continued her strong play, racking up her fourth double-double of the year thanks to a 14-point, 11-rebound performance. The balanced attack also saw Amanda Mobley (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) and Maya Hyacienth (Nottingham, UK/City of London Academy) each score 18 points apiece. Toomey and Firebaugh were the other Broncs in double figures with 10 points apiece.

- Rider has now won three of the last four games against Quinnipiac.  
- Rider scored a season-high 77 points and shot a season-best 46 percent from the field.
- The Broncs knocked down a season-high 12 three-pointers in the game. It was their third contest this year making 10 or more shots from beyond the arc.
- Rider had a season-best 21 assists. It was the team's seventh game this season with 11 or more assists.
- Rider had nine blocked shots in the game. It was their third game overall and second straight contest with eight or more swats.
 
BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Victoria Toomey had 10 points, eight blocks, seven rebounds and five assists. She set new career-high in blocks and assists. It was the most blocks in a game by a Bronc since Marritta Gillcrease had seven against Niagara in January of 2015.
- Firebaugh scored in double figures for the 10th time this season. She also added three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Toussaint poured in 10 or more points for the fourth time in the last five games. She is one of just three players in the MAAC with four or more double-doubles this season (and the only freshman).
- Amanda Mobley had a season-best and tied a career-high with 18 points. She also dished out a season-best eight assists.
- Hyacienth had 18 points thanks to hitting 4-of-5 from three-point range.
