John Hangey Appointed To NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee

Hangey accepts four-year term on NCAA committee

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Wrestling Head Coach John Hangey has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee. Hangey's term of service on the committee will begin September 1, 2020, and continue through August 31, 2024.

"I'm honored to represent the MAAC, Rider University and the Mid-American Conference on the NCAA Division I Wrestling Rules Committee," said Hangey. "I look forward to helping evolve the sport of wrestling and, more importantly, making a positive impact on the student-athletes."

Hangey recently completed his third season as Rider's Head Coach in 2019-20, leading the Broncs to the MAC Eastern Division Championship with a 12-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in MAC duals. Included in the Broncs' success was a road upset of nationally-ranked No. 6 Minnesota on Nov. 15. Four Broncs qualified for NCAA's this season and Hangey has sent 11 Broncs to NCAA's in his three years at the helm.

The 1993 Rider alum was the Broncs' fifth All-American wrestler and was inducted into the Rider Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000. Hangey returned to Rider in 2000 as the program's first full-time assistant coach, later earned a promotion to associate head coach and took over as head coach in 2017-18 for the legendary Gary Taylor. Hangey was the part time assistant coach at Rider from 1994-97 before leaving to assume the head coaching position at Bucknell University. Himself an All-American in his collegiate years, Hangey has been an integral force in Rider's rise on the national wrestling stage, wrestling with or coaching 13 of the other 17 All-Americans in program history. In 2016, the Broncs reached new heights with their first Eastern Wrestling League Championship.
