Amari Johnson Named the MAAC Player of the Week

She earned the honor for the second time this year

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Senior wing Amari Johnson (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) of the Rider University women's basketball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Monday afternoon as announced by the league office.
 
Johnson garnered weekly accolades from the MAAC for the second time this season and the second time in her career.
 
"Amari had an amazing week at both ends of the floor," Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan said. "She is locked in on the details of her role. She takes a lot of pride in her rebounding and shot selection. Amari is doing what she needs to do to help her team win."
 
Senior Amari Johnson had a monster week for the Broncs as Rider racked up three home wins. Johnson averaged 17 points, over 12 rebounds, over two steals and nearly two blocks per game as Rider defeated Fairfield, Manhattan and Monmouth. Amari recorded three double-doubles last week and she has registered six in a row.
 
On the year, she has a MAAC-leading 13 double-doubles. In a win over Fairfield, Johnson had 16 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks. She followed that up with 24 points and 16 rebounds against the Jaspers. She ended the week with 11 points, 11 rebounds and four steals versus the Hawks.
 
Amari is the only player in the MAAC averaging a double-double this season. She currently leads the MAAC and ranks 10th in the nation in rebounding.
 
Rider returns to action on Thursday, February 6, with a road conference contest against hOURglass rival Saint Peter's. Opening tip is slated for 7:00 pm in Jersey City.
