Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Takes Down Fairfield on Tuesday

The Broncs moved to 8-0 in MAAC play with a 60-52 home win

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Seniors Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) and Amari Johnson (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) both recorded double-doubles as the Rider University women's basketball team knocked off visiting Fairfield, 60-52, on Tuesday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Broncs (15-2, 8-0 MAAC) held off a late Stag (9-8, 6-2 MAAC) rally to earn their program-record 12th straight win.

Rider stretched its 10-point halftime lead to 14 at 44-30 after 30 minutes thanks to senior Lexi Stover (Malvern, PA/Archbishop Carroll) beating the buzzer with a three-pointer.

Over the final 10 minutes, Fairfield clawed back to cut the deficit to just three at 52-49 with a little over 90 seconds left in regulation. Down the stretch, the Broncs would hit their free throws to escape with their eighth MAAC win of the season.

Amari had a game-high 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds, while Stella had 15 points and 11 boards. Classmate Lea Favre (Vevey, Switzerland/Lycee Jeanne D'Arc) was the other Bronc in double figures with 11 points.

NOTES & QUOTES
"We stick together and we play tough defense. We shot great from both the three-point line and the foul line. We made some really good talking movements in that second half and especially in the end of the game when they made a little run on defense. That's what veteran teams do. When you have an off-night on offense where we weren't clicking as much as we normally are you have to find other ways to win. We did that tonight." – Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan

- Rider's previous best winning streak as a Division I team was 11 games during the 1981-82 season.
- The Broncs are now 13-0 this season when three or more players score in double figures.
