Women's Basketball Stays Perfect in MAAC Play With a Win Over Manhattan

Stella & Amari Johnson combined for 48 points

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Seniors Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) and Amari Johnson (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) each scored 24 points apiece to lead the Rider University women's basketball team past visiting Manhattan, 76-53, on Thursday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action inside Alumni Gymnasium.
 
The Broncs (16-2, 9-0 MAAC) won their 13th straight game, while the Jaspers (8-11, 5-5 MAAC) lost their second conference road game in a row.
 
Rider used an 8-0 run late in the first half to break open a close game. The Bronc lead would remain in double figures throughout, stretching to as many as 23 late in the game.
 
Stella scored 24 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting. She also added seven rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. Amari had her MAAC-leading 12th double-double of the season. She finished with 24 points and 16 rebounds.
 
Senior Lea Favre (Vevey, Switzerland/Lycee Jeanne D'Arc) was the other Broncs in double figures with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

- Rider has now won seven of the last eight meetings between the two teams.
- The Broncs are 9-0 in MAAC play for the first time in program history.
- Rider is 14-0 this season when three or more players score in double figures.
- The Broncs are 8-0 this season at home.
- Rider shot a season-high 58.5% from the field. It is the highest field-goal percentage for the Broncs since the team hit over 60 percent of its shots last November against Mount St. Mary's.
 
BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Amari had her fifth straight double-double. Her 16 rebounds were a season-high. It was her fourth game with 15 or more boards. She also added two blocks and one steal. It was her fourth consecutive game with two or more blocks.
- Stella tied a season-high with four made three-pointers.
- Favre has scored in double figures in 12 of her last 13 games. Rider is undefeated with her in the starting lineup.  
- Amanda Mobley added eight points and five assists.
