Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) scored a career-high 31 points, including the 1,000
th of his career, but the Rider University men's basketball team fell at hot-shooting Canisius, 95-86, Sunday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 9-8 (3-4 MAAC), while the Griffs are now 8-10 (3-4 MAAC).
Rider led by as many as four points in the early going, with
Christian Ings' (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) scoring five-straight points, including a three-point play at the 14:14 mark. The Broncs went inside early and often to Marshall, who made 9-of-11 attempts from the floor and all five of his free-throw attempts for 23 points in the period. But Canisius was red hot in the period, hitting 61.8 percent (21-34), including 7-of-14 from long range, and took a 52-42 edge into the locker room at halftime.
The Griffs' hot shooting continued through the second half, as Canisius finished at 60.7 percent (37-61). While Canisius built its lead to 16 at the 17-minute mark of the second half, the Broncs whittled the deficit all the way down to six with 59 seconds remaining on a Willy Nuñez, Jr. (Orlando, FL/Oak Ridge [Florida International]) three pointer. But the Broncs could draw no closer.

th Rider men's basketball player all-time to score 1,000 career points, joining current teammates
Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) and
Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School) in achieving the feat.
- Rider's last 30-point performance came almost two years ago to the day, when Vaughn scored a career-high 34 points at Saint Peter's on Jan. 18, 2018.
- Rider joined BYU, Liberty, Illinois-Chicago, North Florida and Southern California with three current 1,000-point scorers. Richmond is the only team in Division I with four 1,000-point scorers.
- Rider leads the all-time series with Canisius, 36-15. The Griffs have won the last two meetings.
- The Broncs return home Friday to face hOURglass rival Saint Peter's. Tip-off from Alumni Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Broncs by the Numbers
- Marshall bested his previous career-high of 28 points, established this past Nov. 20 at Massachusetts.
- Marshall made 12-of-16 attempts from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, with five coming on the offensive glass.
- Ings finished with a season-high 15 points, besting his previous best of 14 vs. Iona on Jan. 10. He made 5-of-8 attempts, including 2-of-3 from long range and all three of his free-throw opportunities. Ings also dished out four assists, tying Jordan for the team high.

Kimar Williams (Philadelphia, PA/Constitution [Florida International]) scored all his season-high 12 points in the second half on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
- Vaughn also finished in double-figures with 10 points, while Nuñez, Jr., hit three three-pointers for nine points.
- The Broncs took a 32-31 edge on the glass, outrebounding their 14
th opponent in 17 games this season.
- Canisius outshot the Broncs, 60.7 percent (37-61) to 47.5 percent (28-59), including a 45.0 percent (9-20) to 32.0 percent (8-25) edge from long range.
- Rider got to the line 36 times, making 22 (61.1 percent). Canisius attempted 16 free throws, making 12 (75.0 percent).
