Former Women's Basketball Standout Lexi Posset '18 Named a Victory Scholar

She is one of three recently graduated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s basketball players to take part in the program.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Former Rider University women's basketball standout Lexi Posset '18 has been named to the 2019-20 Victory Scholar Program as announced by the Sport Changes Life Foundation (SCLF).

She is one of three recently graduated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's basketball players to take part in the program.

"I think it's going to be a great opportunity for me," Posset said. "I get to continue my education as well as play basketball. Through the program, I'll also be involved in the community in Northern Ireland and it's always good to give back. I am grateful that Rider gave me the tools and time to set me up for an experience as exciting as this."

Posset starred for the Broncs from 2015-19 and scored over 960 career points. She left Lawrenceville in the top-10 in program history in games played (119), career free-throw percentage (.776) and assists (296). She was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team three times during her career and as senior she earned Third Team All-MAAC recognition. During her playing career, she led the team to the first two WNIT appearances in program history.

The Broncs have close ties with the Sport Changes Life Foundation as current assistant coach Marritta Gillcrease '15 is a former victory scholar.

"I'm excited beyond words for LP to experience the lessons and joys of being a Victory Scholar," Gillcrease added. "It's an amazing program, ran by awesome people, in a beautiful country. Any study abroad opportunity is transformational, but when I look back on my experience as a Victory Scholar, it's the relationships built that mean the most. I look forward to following along with Lexi on her journey."

The Victory Scholars Program consists of student-athletes who have excelled in their academics and sport, primarily basketball and in recent years golf, at American universities during their undergraduate studies. Through a rigorous selection process, these future leaders progress to study in our partnering Universities and Higher Education Institutes for postgraduate Master degrees across the Island of Ireland while putting their extensive knowledge of their sport, team building, and mentorship into practice in our communities across the island.

The Victory Scholars legacy has helped strengthen the level of basketball being played at a grassroots level and continues to leave a lasting impact in continuing to build relationships which help provide a vital outlet for confidence building and, in many cases, mentoring young people toward their own future victory.

Posset will join Ulster University later this month.
