WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Rider hosts Marist in a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series this weekend on campus at Sonny Pittaro Field. Due to inclement weather expected in the area, the series has been shifted. The two teams will play a single, nine-inning game starting at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 10. The series will conclude with a doubleheader Saturday, May 11, starting at noon. Prior to the first game on Saturday, Rider will honor its nine graduating players.
- Rider and Marist did not play last season. Marist has won six of the last seven meetings with the Broncs dating back to the 2015 season. The Red Foxes have won each of the last three series with Rider. The Broncs have not won a regular-season series with Marist since 2014.
- Last weekend Manhattan took two out of three from Rider in Lawrenceville. In the series finale with the Jaspers, the Broncs rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to score a 5-3 win. The victory snapped a 13-game losing streak for Rider. In the win, senior
Zach Gakeler worked the final three innings of the game to pick up his third triumph of the season. Gakeler scattered three hits and struck out two runners over three scoreless frames.
- Senior first basemen
Riley Mihalik had another strong week at the dish for the Broncs. He hit .389 with a .667 slugging percentage and a .421 on-base percentage in five games. He collected a pair of multi-hit games for Rider last week. In a three-game weekend series against Manhattan he went 3-for-10 with a home run and two RBIs. His two-run blast in game one against the Jaspers was his 10th of the season. he is the first Bronc to record 10 or more homers in a season since Sean Olson in 2009.
- Gakeler was solid on the mound in relief for Rider last week as well. He went 1-0 with 0.00 ERA in five and two-thirds innings of work. In three appearances, he scattered five hits and struck out five batters, while issuing just three walks. On the year, Gakeler has a 3.89 ERA in 34 and two-thirds innings of work. He has made a team-high 22 appearances and has amassed a 3-2 record with five saves.
