LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ ā Three Rider University women's basketball players earned All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honors as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon in a conference call with coaches and media members. Junior
Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) was a unanimous selection to the First Team, while classmate
Amari Johnson (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) garnered Second Team distinction and senior point guard
Lexi Posset (Pittsburgh, PA/Beaver Area) landed on the All-MAAC Third Team.
"As a program we are defined by #RiderHEART," Rider Head Coach
Lynn Milligan said. "These three young ladies represent that every day. We are very proud of their efforts and thrilled they have been recognized."
Stella Johnson was the only unanimous selection to the First Team. She earned end of the year accolades from the conference for the third year after landing on the Second Team last year and the All-Rookie Team as a freshman. Amongst qualified players, she leads ranks in the top-two in the MAAC in four different statistical categories. Stella leads the conference in points per game (18.6) and steals per game (2.7). She also ranks second in the MAAC in both three-point field-goal percentage (.391) and assists per game (4.5). During the season, she was tabbed as the MAAC Player of the Week a conference-best five times. Stella was also recognized as the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week five times and the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division I Player of the Week three times. She was the only player in the MAAC to pick up MBWA weekly honors this season. In mid-November, Stella was also honored as the College Sports Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week after recording the second triple-double in program history.
"Stella has had an amazing season," Milligan added. "Her versatility is unmatched. She not only developed her game at both ends of the floor, but makes her teammates better as well. She is a tireless worker who strives for excellence."
In her first season with the Broncs, Amari lands on the All-MAAC Second Team. During the year, she has recorded a team-best five double-doubles. All five of her double-doubles have come in conference play. On the year, Amari is averaging over 10 points and seven rebounds per game. She has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in three of her last four games. In mid-February, she scored 19 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in a victory over Iona.
"It is never easy playing after a year off as a transfer, but Amari has worked extremely hard on her overall game and it showed," Milligan stated. "She is a threat at both ends of the floor with her scoring and rebounding."
Posset had a career-year in her final season in Lawrenceville. Posset has set new career-bests in 2018-19 in field-goal percentage (.346), assists per game (3.5), steals (36) and points per game (11.4). This year she has moved into the top-10 in program history in assists (288), free-throw percentage (.771) and games played (116). In conference play, she has averaged over 12 points and nearly four assists per game. Posset enters the postseason having scored in double figures in four straight games and eight of her last nine appearances. She currently has 931 career points.
"Lexi has been our leader this season," Milligan noted. "She has played the way a senior point guard should. She controls the pace, starts the defense and puts her teammates in successful situations."
Rider is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament. The Broncs will begin their quest for a conference title on Friday at 3:30 against the winner of Thursday's tilt between Siena and Iona.
