Women's Swimming & Diving Wins Two Gold Medals on Day Two of the MAAC Championships

Meg Tomayko won the 3M diving event on Thursday evening

BUFFALO, NY – The Rider University women's swimming and diving team continued action at the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships on Thursday. The four-day event takes place February 13-16, at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center at Eerie Community College.

Through 13 events, the Broncs are in second-place with 224 total points. Fairfield is in first-place with 279 points followed by Rider and Marist (220 points).

Rider got strong performances from their divers in the 3M diving event. The Broncs saw two divers earn medals. Junior Meg Tomayko (Murfreesboro, TN/Siegel) won a gold medal with a score of 255.15 and senior Breanne Hatter (Lincorft, NJ/Middletown HS South) earned a bronze medal with a third-place finish with a mark of 230.55.

As a team, the Rider quartet of Olivia Iswalt (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic), Maeve Lersch (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper Saint Clair), Jessica Homitz (West Chester, PA/Unionville, High School) and Victoria Evans (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) earned a gold medal with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay. The Broncs touched at 1:35.82 in the final event of the day.

Freshman Kayla May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.85.  

In the 50 free, Iswalt came in fourth-place at 24.10 and Evans landed in sixth with a time of 24.25.

- Kylie McMahon was ninth in the 200 IM at 2:09:67.
- Kyra Schwerzler came in in 10th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.11.
- Anastasia Aleksandrova landed in 12th-place in the 200 IM at 2:10.64.
- Maeve Lersch was 13th in the 50 free with a time of 24.35.
- Meagan Fornero was sixth in the 3M diving with a score of 196.30 in the finals.
