WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- All regular-season home games in 2018-19 will be carried on either ESPN3 or ESPN+. Road games only will be carried on 107.7 The Bronc, including Friday's tilt with Jeff Nolan on the call.
- hOURglass rivals Rider and Saint Peter's are playing for the 67th time in the all-time series history with the Peacocks holding a 44-22 edge. However, the Broncs have had the advantage of late winning the last nine meetings between the two teams. Rider has swept the regular-season series with SPU in each of the last four seasons. Two of the last four games between the two have been decided by five points or fewer. Â
- Rider opened the game on a 7-0 run over the first 4:45 of play and never looked back en route to a 60-38 victory at home against Saint Peter's on January 18. The game marked the largest margin of victory for the Broncs this season.
Amari Johnson recorded a double-double thanks to a 17-point, 13-rebound performance to pace the Rider attack. The Broncs held the Peacocks to just nine percent (1-of-11) shooting in the first quarter to build an early edge.
- The Peacocks enter Friday evening's tilt with a 6-16 overall record and a 1-10 mark in MAAC play after falling at home to Manhattan last Saturday. Saint Peter's is in the midst of a six-game losing streak. The Peacocks are currently second in the conference in three-point shooting, hitting over 34 percent from beyond the arc. It is a two-headed attack for SPU with both Zoe Pero and Briyannah Richardson scoring over 13 points per game. Pero is shooting just under 40 percent from the field and she leads the team in rebounds with six board per tilt, while Richardson has been tabbed as the MAAC Rookie of the Week three times this year.
- Rider 10-2 in MAAC play for the first time under Head Coach
Lynn Milligan and the first time in program history. The previous-best 12-game start to a conference season for the Broncs was 9-3 which the team accomplished during their historic 2016-17 campaign.
- The Broncs have now won 10 or more conference games for the third year in a row and the fourth time under Milligan. It is the second time in program history that the Broncs have stacked three 10-win conference seasons in a row. The other time was from 1992-96 when the Broncs played in the NEC.
- Rider had four players score in double figures last time out against Iona. It marked the third straight contest in which the Broncs saw four players score 10 or more points. Rider has had four players score in double figures in each of their last four victories.
Amari Johnson and
Lea Favre led the charge with 19 points apiece, while senior point
Lexi Posset chipped in 11 points. Off the bench,
Mia Farmer tied a career-high with 11 points.
- Junior
Amari Johnson recorded her team-leading third double-double last time out against Iona. She scored 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting to go along with a career-high 17 rebounds. It marked the fifth time that a Bronc has a recorded a double-double this season.
Stella Johnson also has two double-doubles this year. Rider is 5-0 when a player records a double-double in 2018-19.
- On Monday,
Stella Johnson was named the MAAC Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week for the sixth time this season. She is the only player in the MAAC to earn Player of the Week honors more than twice this season. Stella averaged over 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in wins over Monmouth and Marist. On Wednesday, she was named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division I Player of the Week for the third time this season. She is the only player from the MAAC to earn the distinction this year. Â
