Stella Johnson Continues to Rack Up Weekly Accolades

She was named the MBWA Division I Player of the Week on Wednesday

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Junior guard Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) of the Rider University women's basketball team continued to rack up the weekly accolades on Wednesday morning. Two days after being tabbed as both the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week, Johnson was recognized by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as the Division I Player of the Week.

She becomes the second player this season to garner weekly awards from the MBWA three times this season. She is also the only player in the MAAC to garner the distinction this year.

"Stella continues to do what her team needs to win," Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan said. "This week, once again, she showed her all-around game on both ends of the floor. Stella continues to put in the work necessary for her team's success. We are proud of her continued growth."

Johnson had another impressive week for the Broncs as Rider picked up a pair of MAAC wins. She averaged over 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals per game in wins over Monmouth and Marist.

She has helped the Broncs get off to their best 12-game start (10-2) since joining the MAAC. Stella recorded her second double-double of the season against Monmouth. She had 24 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 15-point win versus the Hawks. She capped her week with 23 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals in a victory over the Red Foxes.

For the week, she shot over 47 percent (8-of-17) from three-point range and knocked down 91 percent (11-of-12) of her free throws.
Johnson is building quite the résumé this year as she was named the College Sports Madness National Division I Player of the Week back in November. She's also been tabbed as both the MAAC Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week six times this year.

Rider returns to action on Friday, February 15, with a road conference showdown against hOURglass rival Saint Peter's. Opening tip is slated for 7:00 pm as the Broncs are looking for the regular-season sweep of the Peacocks.
