Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls to Siena, 59-57

Marshall scores team-high 19 points

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) scored a team-high 19 points, but the Rider University men's basketball team fell to Siena, 59-57, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 12-12 (7-5 MAAC), while the Saints are now 13-12 (8-4 MAAC).

After Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) opened the scoring with a bucket in the opening minute, the Saints went on an 11-0 run and never trailed again. Siena's lead swelled to 10 on five occasions the rest of the way. Rider whittled the deficit to one at the half, but the Saints used a 6-0 early second-half run to push it back to double digits twice, the second of which came on a pair of Kadeem Smithen free throws at the 13:48 mark.

Marshall began to impose his will after that, scoring Rider's next six points to cut the deficit to four. The Broncs would tie the game at 49-49 on a 7-0 run, highlighted by Ahmad Gilbert's (Philadelphia, PA/Constitution [Minnesota]) three-point play, a Marshall bucket in the paint and Dimencio Vaughn's (New York, NY/Callaway/The Masters School) conversion at the 8:14 mark.

Siena again had the answer with five-straight points, but a pair of Jordan free throws, a highlight-reel Vaughn drive and scoop and Jordan's putback tied the game at 55-55 with 4:09 remaining. The teams would exchange successful trips to the free-throw line, before the Broncs found a lid on the basket. They'd miss their last six attempts from the floor, while the Saints got 1-of-2 free throws from Manny Camper to take the lead with 36 seconds left and another 1-of-2 from Smithen with four seconds remaining. Jordan Allen (Dover, DE/Dover) got a look at a three to win it at the buzzer, but it would not fall.
