LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Senior Amari Johnson (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) of the Rider University women's basketball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week on Monday afternoon as announced by the league office.
 
Johnson garnered weekly recognition from the conference for the first time this season and the first time in her career.
 
Amari was also tabbed as the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week on Monday as announced by the organization. It marked the first time in her career that she picked up weekly accolades from College Sports Madness.
 
"Amari has been a great job," Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan said. "She worked tirelessly all summer and preseason to put herself and her in successful situations. She has taken pride in her defense, rebounding and consistency this season and it is showing."
 
Amari Johnson had a monster performance for the Broncs last week in a 77-63 win over Wagner. Johnson recorded her MAAC-leading fourth double-double of the season thanks to a 24-point, 15-rebound performance against the Seahawks.
 
She shot over 68 percent (11-of-16) from the field in the win. Amari also had three assists, two block and two steals. Amari had two or more blocks in a game for the fourth time this year and the 11th time in her 40-game career. She currently leads the MAAC in total blocks (13) and blocks per game (1.6).
 
Following a brief holiday layoff, Rider closes out its 2019 non-conference slate with a road game against Delaware State on December 30. Opening tip is slated for 4:00 pm as the Broncs and Hornets square off for the first time since November of 2003.
