WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- All Rider home basketball games will air on ESPN+ or ESPN3, with the exception of the January 9th contest against Quinnipiac that will air on ESPNU.
Â
- Penn State has won the only two meetings between the two teams. The first game between the two squads came back in November of 2010 and the most recent contest was in December of 2014. Both games were played at Penn State.
Â
- The Lady Lions opened the season with a 73-67 road victory over Towson. Penn State is in its first season under new Head Coach Carolyn Keiger. PSU returns three of their top-five scorers from last season, including Siyeh Frazier. Frazier was one of four Lady Lions to score in double figures last time out against the Tigers. As a team, Penn State forced 26 turnovers in the season opener and held Towson to just 26 percent (6-of-23) shooting from three-point range.
Â
- Rider opened the season with an 80-47 setback at Princeton on Tuesday, November 5. In the game, senior guard
Stella Johnson scored a game-high 22 points, while classmate
Amari Johnson added 14 points. The Broncs fell to the Tigers in a season-opener for the second year in a row.
Â
- A year ago, Rider finished 19-13 overall and earned the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Basketball Championship thanks to registering a 14-4 mark in conference play. The Broncs return four starters from last year's squad that saw three players earn All-MAAC honors.
Â
- Rider was picked to finish third in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. It is the highest the Broncs have been picked to finish in the preseason poll since joining the league. Rider was tabbed fourth in both 2018-19 and 2009-10.
Â
-
Stella Johnson became the first player in program history to earn MAAC Preseason Player of the Year honors. Stella was also a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team. Two other Broncs picked up preseason accolades as senior
Amari Johnson landed on the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team and classmate
Lea Favre earned Preseason All-MAAC Third Team distinction. Â
Â
- Senior
Stella Johnson was named to the Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Wednesday morning. Johnson is one of 50 players in the nation and just two players from mid-major programs to earn a spot on the list. In late October, Johnson was also named one of 20 watch-list candidates for the 2020 Nancy Lieberman Award as announced by The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Â
- Rider shot over 42 percent (6-of-14) from three-point range in the season-opener at Princeton. The Broncs got off to a hot start from beyond-the-arc, hitting five of their first seven attempts from distance. In the game, both
Amari Johnson and
Stella Johnson connected on two three-pointers apiece.
Â
- Rider had six blocks at Princeton on Tuesday. It was the most blocks for the time since they had seven at home against Iona in February of last season. Five different Broncs had one blocked shots and
Amari Johnson had two for Rider. In 33 career games with Rider, it was Amari's seventh game with two or more blocks.
