Field Hockey Opens NEC Play With a Solid Road Win at Wagner

Tess Coorens scored her third goal of the year in the win

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Sophomore Julia Divorra (Terrassa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) scored a pair of goals to lead the Rider University field hockey team past host Wagner, 4-1, on Friday afternoon in Northeast Conference (NEC) play at the new Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.

The Broncs (7-2, 1-0 NEC) scored their fifth win a row, while the Seahawks (1-6, 0-1 NEC) suffered their sixth straight setback.

Rider controlled the tempo throughout and took a 1-0 lead late in the first quarter thanks to senior Tess Coorens (Leiden, Netherlands/Visser'T Hooft Lyceum) converting a penalty stroke.

Divorra gave the guests a 2-0 lead heading into halftime as she found the back of the cage in the 21st minute of play.

In the second half, the Broncs stretched their lead to four as Divorra and Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Mosignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast) scored less than a minute apart early in the third frame.

Junior Lena Vandam (Brasschaat, Belgium) picked up her seventh win of the year in the cage for the Broncs.
