Fairfield Rallies to Defeat Field Hockey in Overtime on Friday

Kaitlyn Flemming scored her first goal of the year for the Broncs in the loss

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Rider University field hockey team fell on the road to No. 24 Fairfield, 2-1, in overtime to Fairfield in Northeast Conference (NEC) action on Friday afternoon at University Field.

The Broncs (9-4, 3-1 NEC) saw their three-game conference winning streak come to an end with the setback, while the Stags (11-2, 3-0 NEC) won their second game in a row against Rider.

The guests opened the scoring in the third quarter as junior Kaitlyn Flemming (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional High School) scored off a penalty corner.

Rider would hold that lead until lead in regulation. With under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, Fairfield tied the game at one on a goal off a penalty corner.

Just over six minutes into the first overtime period, the Stags capitalized on a penalty corner by scoring the game-winning goal.
