What You Need To Know
- The Rider University wrestling team will face Cleveland State (2 p.m.) and Drexel (7 p.m.) on Friday and Edinboro on Saturday (7 p.m.).
- Rider is 1-2 in the dual season, having defeated Penn on Nov. 29 before falling to Rutgers (Dec. 16) and Princeton (Dec. 20).
- Most recently, Rider competed at the Southern Scuffle, hosted by Chattanooga. Jesse Dellavecchia had a strong showing, finishing fourth at 165.
- Dellavecchia is the Broncs' top-ranked wrestler, coming in at 17th nationally in TheOpenMat's rankings, 18th in the Intermat and Amateur Wrestling News rankings and 19th in the FloWrestling and WIN polls. Dellavecchia has a team-best 13 wins on the year.
- Rider cruised to a 30-6 win over Cleveland State last season. The lone Vikings points came via forfeit. However Evan Cheek came on strong at the EWL Championships to defeat Tyson Dippery in the semifinals en route to the EWL title.
- Drexel took an 18-14 win last season in Philadelphia. The Broncs led, 14-6, before the Dragons won the last four matches, including a 3-2 decision at 285 on a takedown with 23 seconds remaining.
- The Broncs and Dragons have split their last six dual matches, with the home team winning each time. Drexel returns two of their five NCAA Qualifiers from a year ago in Garrett Hammond (157) and Stephen Loiseau (197).
- Rider defeated Edinboro, 21-15, last Jan. 21, snapping the Fighting Scots' 24-match EWL winning streak. The streak spanned the last four years since a Feb. 22, 2013, setback to then EWL member Pittsburgh, and was the Broncs' first win over Edinboro in that time.
- Matt Hill took over as Edinboro Head Coach for Tim Flynn, who departed to become Head Coach at West Virginia. Five National Qualifiers also departed Edinboro following last season – Ty Schoffstall to graduation and Billy Miller (Virginia Tech), Korbin Myers (Virginia Tech), Sean Russell (Minnesota) and Andrew Shomers (Oklahoma State) to transfer. A sixth starter, Dakota Geer, also transferred to Oklahoma State.
- Rider had 11 top six finishes in their first two tournaments – the Princeton Open and Keystone Classic -  including Jonathan Tropea's (Harrington Park, NJ/Saint Joseph (Montvale)) Keystone Classic Championship at 125 and runner-up finish at the Princeton Open.
- The Broncs were picked second in the EWL Preseason Coaches Poll, while seniors Dean Sherry (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) and Anthony Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park [South Dakota State]) were picked atop their weight classes of 174 and 133, respectively.
- The Broncs' recruiting class was ranked No. 22 in the nation by Intermet. Frankie Gissendanner (Rochester, NY/Penfield) headlined the class after ranking second in the country last year. Chris Wright (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) was also ranked 13th at 126 last year, while Joe Casey (Bridgewater, NJ/Bound Brook), Bryan Martin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Richie Koehler (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Quentin Milliken (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) also come highly rated.
- A Rider wrestler has achieved All-American status on 17 occasions, including 15 different wrestlers.
