DeCastro, Men's Soccer Win At La Salle

Freshman Gatinois notches road shutout in Rider debut

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Rider University men's soccer team earned their first win of the 2018 season over La Salle University on Saturday night. The Broncs improve to 1-2-1 with the result while La Salle drops to 2-2-0.

A scrappy game for both sides, Rider capitalized on a late goal by Pablo DeCastro (Madrid, Spain/Universidad Francisco de Vitoria) in the 88th minute off a feed from Elliott Otmani (La Ciotat, France/Bonaparte). Freshman goalkeeper Pablo Gatinois (Madrid, Spain/Lycee Francais de Madrid) made his Rider debut in net and earned his first shutout, making one save in the winning effort.

The game featured 39 combined fouls and five yellow cards between both sides while both offenses were limited to just 11 shots, seven by the Broncs.

QUOTES & NOTES
"It was a nice win. It was a very, very tough environment and they were very physical. They packed it in defensively against us and I thought we showed a lot of guts. It was a good win because a few guys who have been working hard in Chase Ealy and Aaron Gabriel got to start tonight and stepped up." - Rider Head Coach Charlie Inverso

"We haven't been scoring a lot of goals, so we changed our formation a little bit and it was successful. Now, we rest up and get prepared for Lehigh. It does feel good to get that first one." - Rider Head Coach Charlie Inverso

- DeCastro's goal is the team's first scored in the second period this season. The Broncs were being outscored 3-0 after halftime.
- After averaging almost six corner kicks per game, Rider only attempted one against La Salle. The Explorers had three.

Broncs By The Numbers
- The road win evens the all-time series against La Salle. After consecutive wins this season and last, the series is 11-11-1.
- Otmani now leads the team in goals, assists, shots, and points after four games.
- Rider's next game is against Lehigh, where the Broncs are looking for their first win in the series since 1995. The Mountain Hawks lead 17-15-4.
