LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Amanda Binder (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro North) and Cyd Melendez (Cayey, PR/Colegio La Merced) each won at both singles and doubles as the Rider University women's tennis team edged hOURglass rival Monmouth, 4-3, Friday afternoon. The Broncs played short-handed with just five players, but battled to earn the victory.

Fielding just two doubles tandems, the Broncs needed to win both to take the point and did just that.
Melendez and Angelica Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) paired to defeat Nicole Gasser and Maria Ivanova, 6-4, at No. 1 and Binder and Vanessa Canda (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academic) cruised to a 6-1 win over Alexandra Graff and Caroline Mattise at No. 2.

With Monmouth taking the No. 6 singles point by default, the Broncs retook the 2-1 lead on Melendez's 6-0, 6-2, victory over Graff at No. 1. Sydney Jeffrey (Port St. Lucie, FL/Lincoln Park Academy) pushed the Broncs to within one more victory of the match win with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Ivanova at No. 5, before Binder battled back from down a set to defeat Rachel Rosenthal, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4 to clinch the match.

The Broncs return to action next Friday, when they take part in the Hofstra Tournament.
