LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Quinnipiac defeated the Rider University men's tennis team, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 0-11 (0-4 MAAC), while the Bobcats are now 8-8 (5-0 MAAC).
Playing with just five players, the Broncs started the match down a point and up against it in doubles, having to win both remaining matches in order to avoid a 2-0 deficit. Rider was highly competitive in both doubles matches, but Quinnipiac came away with wins in both.
Griffin Clark (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) and
Lysander Payano Almonte (New Brunswick, NJ/Colegio Quusquey/Rockland C.C.) fell to Julian Rozenstein and Patrick Cachapero, 6-4, at No. 1, while
Diego Delgado (Lara, Venezuela/Colegio Rioclaro) and
Javier Melendez (Cayey, PR/Colegio La Merced) pushed Axel Stern and Hielke Moore at No. 2, but fell, 7-5.
Delgado played the most competitive singles match for the Broncs, falling to Stern, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 4. Clark also pushed Cachapero at No. 3, but was defeated, 6-3, 6-2.
The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they play host to hOURglass rival Monmouth at 1 p.m.
