Three Women's Basketball Players Earn All-MAAC Honors

Hoskova & Johnson land on the Second Team, while Morris is named to the All-Rookie Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Three Rider University women's basketball players earned All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honors as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon in a conference call with coaches and media members. Senior Kamila Hoskova ((Brno, Czech Republic/Sportovni Gymnazium Ludvika Danka) and sophomore Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) both received All-MAAC Second Team distinction, while freshman Jaiden Morris (Richmond, VA/Monacan) was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.

Hoskova repeats on the All-MAAC Second Team after landing on the team as a junior as well, while Johnson is on the second team after garnering MAAC All-Rookie Team distinction a year ago. It marked the second straight season in which the Broncs saw a freshman land on the All-Rookie Team. The three Broncs recognized by the league were tied with Quinnipiac, Marist and Manhattan for the most.

"Stella and Kammy have been a huge part of the growth of our team this season," Rider Head Coach Lynn Milligan said. "I couldn't be more proud of their efforts on a daily basis on and off the court."

Johnson enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign as she ranks in the top-five in the MAAC in points per game (15.4), field-goal percentage (.462), steals (73) and steals per game (2.5). She has turned it on during MAAC play this season, averaging over 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals per game. In league action, Johnson has also hit almost 47 percent of her shots. She has recorded five double-doubles this year and four of them have come against MAAC opponents. On the defensive end, she has blocked at least one shot in 10 of her last 11 games, highlighted by tying a career-high with four blocks at Canisius on February 18. She has also recorded five or more steals in a game four times this year.

"Stella has had an amazing sophomore year," Milligan added. "She took the steps needed to improve her game since the day the season ended last year. Her all-around game is special and will continue to grow."

Hoskova had a senior year to remember, moving into the top-10 in program history in scoring. On December 30 against Siena, she became the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000 career points. Currently, she ranks eighth in Rider women's basketball history with 1,225 career points. She has started every game over the last two seasons for the Broncs and in conference play as a senior she is averaging 14 points and six rebounds. This year, she ranks in the top-two in the MAAC in both free-throw percentage (84.5%) and minutes played per game (35.3). For the second straight year, Hoskova was tabbed as a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. She was named the Rider Female Athlete of the Month for December. Hoskova was once named the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week this year and was once recognized as the MAAC Player of the Week.

"Kammy has been our warrior this year all season long," Milligan noted. "I have said it before there are not enough words for me to justify the positive impact she has had on our program the last four years."

Morris has shown flashes of strong play during her freshman season for the Broncs. Morris is averaging over seven points per game off the bench for Rider in 2017-18. She has scored in double figures 10 times, highlighted by pouring in a career-high 18 points at Quinnipiac on 7-of-10 shooting in mid-January. Defensively, she has registered three or more steals in a game five times, including a career-high six at Monmouth on February 3. During the year, Morris was honored as the MAAC Rookie of the Week twice.

"I'm very proud of Jaiden for being recognized for her efforts this season," Milligan stated. "She has worked really hard to keep developing her game.  She has the determination and wants to continue this process moving forward."

The fifth-seeded Broncs (13-16, 10-8 MAAC) open the MAAC Tournament with a quarterfinal showdown against No. 4 seed Fairfield (13-16, 10-8) on Saturday, March 3 at 2:30 pm at the Time Union Center in Albany, New York.
