What You Need to Know
- Rider closes out a weekend two-game road trip in western New York on February 18 versus Canisius. The Broncs are looking for the regular-season sweep of the Griffs after topping Canisius at home by 16 in early January. Outside of Lawrenceville this season the team is 5-9 overall and 3-4 in MAAC play. The Broncs have dropped four of their last five road conference games after winning their first two of the season.
- Last time out, Niagara ended the first half on an 11-0 run and never trailed after halftime to take down Rider, 69-61. The Broncs score 10 of the 11 points of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to just four, but it wasn't enough to overcome the slow start. Rider forced 18 Purple Eagle turnovers, but the Broncs shot just 30 percent from the field. The 30 percent field-goal percentage was the team's lowest in conference play this season.
- Junior point guard
Lexi Posset scored a career-high 27 points thanks to knocking down 5-of-8 from three-point range and hitting 10-of-12 at the free-throw line to lead the Broncs past the Griffs, 70-54, on January 7 inside Alumni Gymnasium. After falling behind early, the Broncs closed out the first quarter on a 12-0 run over the final 6:59 to lead, 17-7, after 10 minutes. Rider came out hot from the field in second half, shooting 75 percent (9-of-12) from the field in the third as their lead ballooned to as many as 26 late in the frame.
- This season, Rider is 10-0 when holding opponents to under 60 points. Rider has held their opponents under 60 points in all eight of their conference wins this season. The Broncs are also 11-2 (8-1 in MAAC play) in 2017-18 when they shoot a higher percentage than their opponents. The Broncs have forced at least 17 turnovers in a game 17 times this season, including each of their last five contests. Rider has a +1.8 turnover ratio this year which ranks second in the MAAC. When opponents score over 60 points in MAAC play, the Broncs are 0-7.Â
- Sophomore
Stella Johnson had another impressive stat line against Niagara last time out. The speedy guard scored 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and seven assists. She scored 11 points in the fourth quarter against the Purple Eagles to breathe life back into the Bronc offense.
- Last time out against Niagara,
Stella Johnson and
Kamila Hoskova combined to score 45 of the team's 61 points. The pair were the only Broncs to make more than one field goal in the game. Johnson and Hoskova combined to shoot 14-of-36 (38.9 percent) from the field and 15-of-20 (75.0 percent) from the foul line. The rest of the Broncs shot just 16.7 percent (4-of-24) from the field.
-
Stella Johnson had a season-high seven steals at Niagara. It was one shy of tying her career-high and program record of eight thefts, which she recorded versus Lafayette last year. It was her second straight game with six or more steals. Her seven steals were the most this season by a player in the MAAC. Freshman
Jaiden Morris recorded a career-high six steals against Monmouth on February 3. The Broncs have recorded 10 or more steals in a game six times this year, including a season-best 18 in the opener against Bucknell.
