LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Men's Soccer's
Sylvain Coco (Nimes, France/University of Montpellier) and
Elliott Otmani (La Ciotat, France/Bonaparte) each earned All-East Region honors, the United Soccer Coaches today announced. Coco was honored on the Second Team, while Otmani took Third Team recognition. The honor the third in Otmani's career, after he was named to the Second Team in 2016 and the First Team in 2017. Coco was named All-Region for the first time. The duo led Rider to a MAAC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth for the third time in four years.
An two-time All-MAAC selection on defense in his two seasons in Lawrenceville, Coco also come through offensively with three goals this season, all game winners, against Marist, Monmouth and Iona in the MAAC Quarterfinals. All three goals have come off set pieces. Coco also played a pivotal role in the Broncs' seven clean sheets this season, including five-straight to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. Led by Coco, the Broncs' defense posted a 0.97 goals-against average this season.
Otmani capped one of the most prolific careers in Rider men's soccer history, becoming just the third Bronc all-time to total both 30 goals and 20 assists, finishing with 30 goals and 22 assists. The four-time All-MAAC selection and two-time MAAC Championship MVP scored the game-winning goal to upend top-seeded, 2018 MAAC Regular Season Champion and defending MAAC Tournament Champion Fairfield on the Stags home field in the semifinals to join the exclusive club, which consists of Rider's all-time leading scorer, Craig Wicken '99 (49 goals, 24 assists), and 1972 All-American Bobby Smith '72 (46 goals, 20 assists). He finished his career tied for seventh all-time in goals with Anselmo Bryan '90 and alone in sixth with 22 assists. In the 2018 Preseason, Otmani was selected to the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, and led the Broncs with 10 assists and 24 points. His seven goals ranked second on the team. He contributed the game-winning goal against Niagara and had had a goal or assist in eight of the Broncs' nine wins against MAAC foes this season.
