PRINCETON, NJ – The Rider University wrestling team took five of 10 bouts Thursday night at Princeton, but the Tigers took the match, 23-21, on the strength of extra points in three bouts. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-2, while the Tigers are now 2-3.
A back-and-forth match saw Rider take its first lead on
Travis Layton's (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) 3-2 victory over Marshall Keller at 141. But Princeton would take the next two bouts, including a tech fall from nationally-ranked No. 1 Matthew Kolodzik at 149.
Rider retook the lead on the strength of a 6-2 decision from #20
Jesse Dellavecchia (Great River, NY/East Islip) at 165 and a late takedown from
Dean Sherry (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) for a 7-5 decision at 174. But Princeton won by fall at 184 and also took a decision at 197 to clinch the match.
Ryan Cloud's (Brookville, OH/Northmont) fall at 285 got the Broncs six points, but it wasn't enough.
