WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- All regular-season home games in 2018-19 will be carried on either ESPN3 or ESPN+. Road games only will be carried on 107.7 The Bronc. No radio broadcasts for home games will be provided.
- The United States Naval Academy enters the contest with a 2-3 overall record after defeating North Carolina A&T on Sunday, November 25. Navy was picked to finish fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. As a team, Navy is forcing over 24 turnovers per game and the squad has an eye-popping +5.0 turnover margin. The USNA is registering over 14 steals per game and outscoring opponents by 30 points this season in the third quarter. Offensively, it is a balanced attack for Navy with four players averaging in double figures. Jennifer Coleman leads the way with over 12 points per game and she also has a team-high 14 assists this year. In the post, Sophie Gatzounas is shooting over 51 percent from the field. Gatzounas is scoring over 10 points and grabbing more than seven rebounds per contest.
- Navy has won all four meetings between the two squads. The teams are playing for the second straight season and just the second time since the 2013-14 campaign.
- Last time out, Rider won for the third time in their last four tilts, defeating visiting NJIT, 67-46. In the win, juniors
Stella Johnson and
Lea Favre combined to score 42 points. Rider got off to a quick start, hitting 8-of-18 shots in the first quarter to hold an 18-9 edge after 10 minutes. The Broncs forced eight NJIT Highlanders in the second quarter to take a 30-23 advantage into halftime. The Broncs won the third quarter and the hosts would pull away in the fourth frame to earn the victory.
- As a team, Rider ranks in the top-three in the MAAC in five statistical categories. The Broncs are second in field-goal percentage (40.3%), assist-to-turnover ratio (0.98) and assists per game (13.4), while ranking third in both scoring average (63.4) and three-point field-goal percentage (31.9%). Individually, Stella leads the MAAC in scoring (21.4 PPG), field-goal percentage (50.8%), assists (5.1 APG), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4) and steals (3.1 SPG).
- Rider forced a season-high 26 turnovers in the victory over NJIT on Wednesday. The Broncs committed just eight turnovers in the contest. It was their second game this fall in which they forced more turnovers than they committed. Rider has won both of those games. The Broncs held the Highlanders to 32 percent shooting and 22 percent (4-of-18) from three-point range. It was the most turnovers forced by Rider since the Broncs forced 28 turnovers in the season-opener last season against Bucknell.
- Rider had a season-high 21 assists on Wednesday against NJIT. The Broncs had assists on 21 of their 29 made field goals. It was the most assists for the team since the team had 21 in a win over Iona in January of 2017. Four Broncs had three or more assists in the game, led by junior
Stella Johnson with eight dimes. Rider is averaging 13.4 assists per game this season.
- Juniors
Stella Johnson and
Lea Favre combined to score 42 points in the victory over NJIT. Johnson poured in a game-high 22 points to go along with eight assists, five steals, three blocks and three rebounds, while Favre added 20 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Favre was a factor in the post for the hosts, pulling down six rebounds and dishing out a trio of assists. With her points and assists, Stella was directly responsible for 40 points.
