Volleyball Rallies Past Manhattan in MAAC Play on Saturday

The Broncs have won seven straight matches

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – A balanced offensive attack led the Rider University volleyball team past visiting Manhattan, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action inside Alumni Gymnasium.

The Broncs (15-9, 10-5 MAAC) won their seventh straight match, while the Jaspers (4-23, 2-12 MAAC) dropped their fourth match in a row. Rider won by scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14 to earn their sixth MAAC victory in a row.

It was a day to remember for Bronc Head Coach Chris Feliciano as he picked up his 113th victory at the helm of the program. He now has the most wins of any head coach in Rider volleyball history.

It was a three-headed attack offensively for the Broncs as senior Savannah Logan (Jupiter, FL/Benjamin) the way with a match-best 12 kills. Classmate Hailey Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) and junior Alexa Shello (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) both chipped in 11 kills apiece for the hosts.

In the middle, freshman setter Anilee Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill) continued her strong play on both sides of the ball. Sher dished out 38 assists, while adding two service aces, one kill and 17 digs.

At the net, freshman Caprice Clarke (Toronto, Canada/Blyth Academy (Yorkville)) had a career-high six kills to go along with two solo blocks and four block assists. Senior Perry Williams (Portland, OR/Cleveland) contributed nine kills, one solo block and two block assists.

On the defensive end, junior libero Rachelle Runyon (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) had another solid match for the Broncs with a match-high 27 digs. Sophomore Danielle Blanco (El Paso, TX/Franklin) added 12 digs and classmate Brynn Sherbert (Temecula, CA/Great Oak) registered eight digs of her own.

NOTES & QUOTES
"My life has changed a lot since I took over as the head coach here at Rider. Life has a way of putting you in great places if you work hard. I don't get here without the incredible work ethic of not only the players that have come through the gym, but the administration and their commitment to develop me into a better leader, better coach and a better man." – Rider Head Coach Chris Feliciano

"I think that we played some of our best ball in set three and in the middle of set two. No one is perfect, but it is rewarding that we find ways to win matches. Our discipline is a big factor in why we are winning matches the way we are. We got back to that later in the match. We weren't playing team ball in the first set." - Feliciano

- Rider had 68 points, 53 kills, 51 assists, six service aces, nine total blocks and 83 digs.
- Rider took advantage of 25 Manhattan attack errors, two ball-handling errors, and seven Jasper service errors.
- The win was the fourth straight for the Broncs against Manhattan.
- Rider has now won 10 or more MAAC games for the fifth year in a row.
- Feliciano is just the second coach in program history to win more than 100 matches.

BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Runyon had 10 or more digs for the 22nd straight match. It was her eighth match with 20 or more digs this season. She has registered 20 or more digs in four of her last five appearances.
