What You Need To Know
- The Rider University wrestling team faces Penn in the first dual of the season for both teams.
- The Broncs opened the season with a pair of tournaments – the Princeton Open on Nov. 4 and the Keystone Classic on Nov. 18.
- Rider had 11 top six finishes in the two tournaments, including
Jonathan Tropea's (Harrington Park, NJ/Saint Joseph (Montvale)) Keystone Classic Championship at 125 and runner-up finish at the Princeton Open. Â
- Though the Quakers own a 5-4 lead in the all-time series, the Broncs have won the last four meetings.

Dean Sherry (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) was ranked #25 at 174 in the latest Trackwrestling Division I rankings. Â
- Anthony Artalona is the Quakers' top-ranked wrestler at 149, taking the No. 20 ranking from Intermat and No. 21 from Trackwrestling.
- The Broncs were picked second in the EWL Preseason Coaches Poll, while seniors Sherry and
Anthony Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park [South Dakota State]) were picked atop their weight classes of 174 and 133, respectively.
- Rider also returns starters
Gary Dinmore (Skillman, NJ/Hunterdon Central [Penn State]) at 157,
Michale Fagg-Daves (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) at 184 and
Ethan Laird (Waterford, PA/General McLane) at 197.
- The Broncs' recruiting class was ranked No. 22 in the nation by Intermet. Frankie Gissendanner (Rochester, NY/Penfield) headlines the class after ranking second in the country last year. He projects to wrestle at 141.
Chris Wright (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) was also ranked 13
th at 126 last year, while
Joe Casey (Bridgewater, NJ/Bound Brook),
Bryan Martin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown),
Richie Koehler (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and
Quentin Milliken (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) also come highly rated.
- The Broncs lost a pair of national qualifiers to graduation in two-time All-American
Chad Walsh at 165 and
J.R. Wert at 125, as well as former All-American
B.J. Clagon at 157.
- A Rider wrestler has achieved All-American status on 17 occasions, including 15 different wrestlers.
- Rider's 2018-19 season features seven home dual matches, including visits from Iowa State (Jan. 17) and Maryland (Feb. 24). In addition, the Broncs will wrestle in-state foes Rutgers and Princeton on the road on Dec. 16 and 20, respectively, and travel to Minnesota on Feb. 21.  Â
