WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- All regular-season home games in 2018-19 will be carried on either ESPN3 or ESPN+. Road games only will be carried on 107.7 The Bronc. No radio broadcasts for home games will be provided.
- The Mountaineers were picked to finish fifth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll. Mount St. Mary's is coming off a 9-20 season in which they posted a 6-12 mark in conference play. They bring back eight players from last year's squad, including All-NEC Third Team member and the conference's Most Improved Player Juliette Lawless, along with All-Rookie Team member Daly Sullivan. The Mount is 1-2 this year and in the midst of a two-game skid after dropping games at Michigan and Duquesne. Mount St. Mary's has a balanced attack with three players averaging in double figures led by senior guard Juliette Lawless with over 14 points per game. Last time out against Duquesne, the mount hit 10-of-25 shots from beyond the arc. In the setback, Jatarrikah Settle scored 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor.
- Mount St. Mary's leads the all-time series, 18-5. This year's meeting is the second in as many years and just the second since the 2012-13 campaign. The Mount has won three of the last five meetings between the two squads, including last December's victory. Â
- Last time out, Holy Cross defeated Rider, 71-61, in Worcester on Sunday. Junior guard Stella Johnson continued her solid play for the Broncs as she poured in 22 points on 9-of-19 shooting. She also added six rebounds and three assists versus the Crusaders. Over the last 10 minutes, Holy Cross hit 7-of-14 from the field and 10-of-12 from the foul line to hold off Rider's rally.Â
- On Monday, Stella Johnson was named both the MAAC Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week. It was the first time in her career that she earned either weekly accolade. It marked the first time she has picked up weekly distinction since twice being named the MAAC Rookie of the Week as a freshman during the 2016-17.
- Rider has a packed non-conference schedule in the early portion of the season. After facing the two-time defending Ivy League champion Princeton Tigers, the Broncs will face opponents from the A10 (Saint Joseph's) and Big EAST (Georgetown). Rider will face one team that played in last year's NCAA Tournament (Princeton) and four squads that appeared in the WNIT (Saint Joseph's, Navy, Bucknell and Georgetown).
- Junior Lea Favre pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds last Friday at Vermont. Five of those were offensive rebounds, while Vermont had just four offensive rebounds as a team. It was her third game in the last two years with 10 or more rebounds for the Broncs. Her previous college-best was 11 at Saint Peter's last year. Against Holy Cross, redshirt junior Amari Johnson pulled down a career-high eight boards. Favre is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game this season and Johnson is grabbing 6.7 boards per tilt through three games.
- Rider has won the third quarter in all three of their games this season. The Broncs are outscoring the opposition, 56-47, in the 10 minutes coming out of halftime. In the third quarter at Holy Cross, the Broncs hit 8-of-18 shots from the field, highlighted by jarring 3-of-5 attempts from three-point range. The Broncs have trailed at the half in all three of their games this season.
