What You Need To Know
- Saturday's match vs. Lock Haven pits two of the last three remaining unbeaten teams in the league (along with Clarion).
- The Bald Eagles are ranked No. 23 in the latest USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, while Intermat has Lock Haven a slot ahead of the Broncs at No. 18.
- Saturday's match is Youth Night. Tickets for kids ages 12 and under are just $4.
- Saturday is also All-American Night, as the Broncs will honor two of the finest wrestlers in program history - Tim Morrison (1983) and John Carvalheira (1997, 1998).
- Though Lock Haven holds a 14-9 edge in the all-time series with the Broncs, Rider has won the last seven since 2008-09. The last Lock Haven win came in 2002-03.
- Rider also owns an 11-6 lead in the all-time series with Bloomsburg, including the last four. The Huskies' last win against the Broncs came in 2008-09.
- The Broncs are ranked as highly as No. 19 in the national polls this week. Both the USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll and Intermat have the Broncs at No. 19, while Trackwrestling slots the Broncs in at No. 24. Â
- Two of Rider's wrestlers are ranked nationally.
Chad Walsh (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) is ranked as highly as No. 3 at 165 by Amateur Wrestling News, Intermat and WrestleStat while
B.J. Clagon (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) is slotted as high as No. 11 by FloWrestling. Â
- Six Rider wrestlers were ranked in the Top 33 on the recently-released NCAA Coaches Panel Rankings, headlined by No. 4 Walsh at 165. Clagon also ranks 18th at 157, while
J.R. Wert (Christianburg, VA/Christianburg) ranks No. 28 at 125.
Tyson Dippery (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin [Rutgers]) comes in at No. 29 at 141, while
Anthony Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park Regional) is ranked No. 30 at 133. Rounding out the ranked Broncs is
Michale Fagg-Daves (Somerset, NJ/Franklin), who ranks 32nd at 184.
- Lock Haven features three ranked wrestlers, including Chance Marsteller, who ranks sixth nationally by Intermat and The Open Mat. A redshirt junior transfer from Oklahoma State, Marsteller and
Chad Walsh have not yet met on a collegiate mat.
- Ronnie Perry (149) and Thomas Haines (285) are also ranked. Perry comes in as high as No. 14 by The Open Mat, while Haines ranks 13
th by Intermat and WrestleStat.
- Lock Haven's lone loss of the season came on Jan. 12 against Oklahoma. Meanwhile, the Bald Eagles earned a signature win on Dec. 1 over Rutgers.
- Bloomsburg has defeated George Mason and fallen to Lock Haven and Edinboro thus far in the conference season. Most recently, they've scored victories over VMI and Sacred Heart in their last two. Â
- Rider has defeated Iowa State, Penn, Columbia, North Dakota State, Franklin & Marshall, George Mason, Princeton, Cleveland State and Edinboro this season, with its lone setbacks coming to then #4 Missouri and then #7 Iowa.
- Rider snapped Edinboro's 24-match EWL winning streak on Jan. 21 in Western Pennsylvania. The streak dated back to Feb. 22, 2013, when the Fighting Scots fell to then-EWL member Pittsburgh.
- Walsh is 16-0 on the season, including an 11-0 mark in dual matches and a 3-0 record against EWL foes. Not included in the mark is an NWCA All-Star Classic win over Princeton's Jonathan Schleifer by a 4-3 decision. Clagon also beat nationally-ranked Alec Pantaleo of Michigan in the event.
- Three different Broncs have been named EWL Wrestler of the Week this season. Walsh earned the honor on Dec. 4 after earning a 6-2 decision over Penn's May Bethea. Wert took the distinction on Dec. 31 after going 4-0 at the South Beach Duals, including a win over Missouri's Barlow McGhee, who ranked as highly as No. 17 nationally. Finally,
Dean Sherry (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) earned the award on Jan. 22 following a pair of victories over foes from Cleveland State and Edinboro. Â
- Rider was selected as the favorite to win the 2018 Eastern Wrestling League Championship.
