West Long Branch, NJ – The Rider University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2018 calendar year with a 155-50 dual-meet victory against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Monmouth on Tuesday evening at Steadman Natatorium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Broncs (2-5) defeated the Hawks (1-8) for the second straight season.
Rider was dominant in the pool and got off to hot start, registering the top-two finishing times in each of the first four events.
The Broncs got strong individual performances from senior
Tara Maniace (Neptune, NJ/Neptune), freshman
Brianna Hatzold (Delran, NJ/Delran High School), freshman
Maeve Lersch (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper Saint Clair High School), junior
Amy Rheel (Mercerville, NJ/Notre Dame) and junior
Taylor Stalnaker (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury).
To start the day, Lersch, Maniace, Stalnaker and Hatzold teamed to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:51.89. Lersch also added victories in the 50 free with a time of 25.32 and the 100 back at 59.52.
Maniace also brought home first-place finishes in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.73 and the 100 breast with mark of 1:10.16, while Hatzold came in first in the 100 free at 54.68.
Stalnaker also was part of the 400 free relay quartet along with Rheel,
Olivia Iswalt (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic) and
Victoria Evans (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) that won with a time of 3:43.38. Rheel was won the 200 free with a time of 2:00.16.
Notes
- The win was the second for the Broncs against a conference opponent this season.
- Rider racked up 10 victories in the 11 events.
- The divers did not compete for the Broncs.

Hannah Bayer won the 1,000 free with a time of 11:06.02 and she also came in second in the 500 free.

Casey Wrabley won the 500 free and came in second in both the 1,000 free and 200 free.
- Stalnaker also added a second-place finish in 200 free.
