What You Need To Know
- Prior to the Princeton match, Rider will unveil a new mat, named in honor of legendary longtime Broncs Head Coach Gary Taylor, who ranked third all-time in NCAA Division I dual victories. Rider is the first school to name its mat in honor of its former coach.
- Rider holds a 16-4 edge in the all-time series with Princeton, including wins in each of the last 16 matches dating back to 1986-87. All 20 matches in the series were contested during Gary Taylor's tenure.
- The Broncs have also controlled the series with George Mason to the tune of a 14-1 record against the Patriots. The only setback against GMU came during the 2007-08 season.
- Rider defeated Princeton, 25-11, and George Mason, 24-18, during the 2016-17 season.
- The Broncs are ranked as highly as No. 21 in the national polls this week. Both the USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll and Intermat have the Broncs at No. 21, while Trackwrestling slots the Broncs in at No. 25.
- Three of Rider's wrestlers are ranked nationally. Chad Walsh is ranked as highly as No. 3 at 165 by both Amateur Wrestling News and Intermat, while B.J. Clagon is slotted as high as No. 11 by FloWrestling. J.R. Wert is ranked No. 20 by Intermat and 21 by TrackWrestling.
- Princeton features five wrestlers appearing in the national rankings, including Matt Kolodzik, who ranked No. 6 at 149 in the AWN poll. Jonathan Schleifer (#15 AWN, #20 FloWrestling, #20 TrackWrestling at 165), Mike D'Angelo (#15 TrackWrestling, #12 AWN at 157), Ian Baker (#20 TrackWrestling at 184) and Patrick Brucki (#16 TrackWrestling, #16 AWN, #18 Intermat at 197) are also highly ranked.
- Though Princeton is 0-5, all five dual matches have come against nationally-ranked opponents.
- George Mason's two victories this season have come over The Citadel and Sacred Heart.
- Rider had defeated Iowa State, Penn, Columbia, North Dakota State and Franklin & Marshall this season, with its lone setbacks coming to then #4 Missouri and then #7 Iowa.
- Walsh is 12-0 on the season. Not included in the mark is an NWCA All-Star Classic win over Schleifer by a 4-3 decision. Clagon also beat nationally-ranked Alec Pantaleo of Michigan in the event.
- Wert was named EWL Wrestler of the Week after going 4-0 at the South Beach Duals, including a win over Missouri's Barlow McGhee, who ranked as highly as No. 17 nationally.
- Rider was selected as the favorite to win the 2018 Eastern Wrestling League Championship.
