Providence, RI – The Rider University field hockey team lost on the road to Bryant, 1-0, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Friday afternoon at Goldberger Field on the campus of Brown University.
The Broncs (4-5, 0-1 MAAC) saw their three-game winning streak against the Bulldogs (5-4) come to an end. Â
Bryant opened the scoring late in the first half as Freya Ward tipped a shot past Rider freshman goalkeeper
Lena Vandam (Brasschaat, Belgium). Ward's tip came off a penalty corner with both Floor Van Dommelen and Victoria Newbill picking up the assists. Â
The Broncs threatened in the 54th minute as freshman Kaitlyn Fleming (Bellmawr, NJ/Triton Regional High School) fired one shot on goal that was turned aside and took another that was just wide. Rider was unable to breakthrough after the scoring chance midway through the second half.
Vandam made one save for Rider in a losing effort.
