Lawrenceville, NJ – The Rider University women's volleyball team held off visiting Iona to score a 3-2 victory on Wednesday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at Alumni Gymnasium. The Broncs topped the Gaels by scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-12, 24-26 and 15-11.
Rider (7-9, 2-3 MAAC) won its second fifth-set match of the fall and snapped a three-game conference losing streak, while the Gaels (5-11, 3-2 MAAC) saw their three-game league winning streak come to an end.
With the score tied at seven in the deciding set, Rider got back-to-back kills from juniors
Hailey Riede (Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley-Demarest) and
Savannah Logan (Jupiter, FL/Benjamin). The Broncs would not surrender the lead again en route to the win. Senior
Jennifer Borio (Ridley Park, PA/Padua Academy) sealed the win with a kill.
Offensively, Riede and Logan led the charge with 15 kills apiece. Riede had an attack percentage .353 and Logan checked in with a team-high .283 attack percentage. Borio was the other Bronc with double-digit kills, recording 13. In the middle, senior setter
Veronica Koval (Allentown, PA/Parkland) had 51 assists for the Broncs.
Fresh off becoming the program's all-time digs leader, senior tri-captain
Emma Aldaya (Prospect Park, PA/Merion Mercy Academy) led the defensive effort with 22 digs, while freshman
Brynn Sherbert (Temecula, CA/Great Oak) chipped in a career-high 18 digs. Sophomore
Rachelle Runyon (Aliso Viejo, CA/Aliso Niguel) added 11 digs.
At the net, sophomore
Evelyn Shanefield (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) had two solo blocks and four block assists for the Broncs. Â Â Â

"I feel like we are still finding our way as a team," Rider Head Coach Chris Feliciano said.
- Rider had 55 kills, nine total blocks, eight service aces and 75 digs as a team.

- Koval has had 40 or more assists four times this season. It also marked her second game in 2017 with 50 or more assists.
- Aldaya topped 20 digs in a match for the fifth time this year. She continues to rewrite the program record book as she now has 1,870 career digs.
- Riede has now reached double-digits in kills in a match nine times this fall, including eight matches in a row. In conference play, she is averaging over 13 kills per match.
- Sherbert's registered 10 or more digs for the fifth time in her career, three of those matches have come against conference foes.
