WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth swept all three doubles flights and all six singles matches en route to a 7-0 victory over the Rider University women's tennis team Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks improve to 1-3, while the Broncs slip to 1-2 (0-1 MAAC).
 
Vanessa Canda (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academic) and Cyd Melendez (Cayey, PR/Colegio La Merced) pushed Sophia Fredriksson and Maria Ivanova at No. 1 doubles, before falling, 7-5. The Hawks won the remaining two doubles flights by 6-3 scores to take a 1-0 match lead.
 
Melendez and Montana Morris (Horsham, PA/Hatsboro-Horsham) both pushed their singles matches to a third set, but the Hawks won all six singles flights. Melendez fell to Fredriksson, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5, at No. 2, while Morris was defeated by Caroline Mattise, 6-0, 2-6, 6-1, at No. 6.
 
The Broncs return to action next Wednesday, when they travel to Fairfield. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
