Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Outlasts LIU Brooklyn, 2-1, in 2OT

Catanzaro buries golden goal in 107'

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJMathis Catanzaro (Montpellier, France/MHSC) buried the game-winning goal in the 107th minute as the Rider University men's soccer team defeated LIU Brooklyn, 2-1, in double overtime Saturday afternoon on Ben Cohen Field. With the win, the Broncs improve to 4-2-0, while the Blackbirds slip to 0-4-1.

Elliott Otmani (La Ciotat, France/Bonaparte) got the Broncs on the board in the 17th minute, collecting a loose ball deflected out off a corner 25 yards out in front of the goal and deposited it into the right upper 90.

Just over three minutes into the second half, LIU scored the equalizer with Filip Nordstrom and Erik Wahlin connecting passes to Rasmus Hansen in the box before Hansen finished past Rider goalkeeper David Pastuna (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville). Following 58 scoreless minutes, the Broncs were awarded a free kick just outside the top of the 18-yard box. Catanzaro lined it up and buried it inside the left upper 90 for the golden goal.

Quotes and Notes
"It was good to get a win, but we've got to play better for longer stretches. They give us about 46 minutes. That 46 minutes has to be stretched into 80 or 85 minutes."

"Elliott's goal was like déjà vu. He scored the same kind of goal against Saint Peter's last year on the same goal in the same spot. It was amazing. Almost like a carbon copy. Great goal for a great kid."

"We got a little bit of a break. We had something go against us with the hand ball last game. But it was a good way to finish it off." – Rider Head Coach Charlie Inverso

- Rider got back into the win column at home after suffering its first loss on Ben Cohen Field in over a year this past Wednesday against Villanova.
- The Broncs are now an unbeaten 5-0-6 in their last 11 overtime contests dating back to the 2014 season. Rider is 2-0-0 in overtime contests this year with a Sept. 1 victory at Temple. The last time Rider lost in overtime was the 2013 season finale against Quinnipiac.
